Aerophilately
Aerophilately is a unique term used in philately for describing the study of transportation of mail, including all postage stamps and covers linked to airmail services in general.
Initially, in the mid-19th century, airmail services were conducted with the use of balloons. Later, moving into the early 20th century, the use of biplanes improved and expanded airmail services.
Progressively, airmail service became more reliable with advancements in aviation technology.
It's noticeable that for special airplane services (airmail link between towns or cities, continental airplane races, etc), special First Day Covers were produced for celebrating these events. Such covers are equally popular and are part of Aerophilately.
